Cameras & Lenses

A full frame camera will provide a broader dynamic range and a higher quality image than a crop sensor.

Important to shoot with lenses that are sharp and will not capture chromatic aberration ( random blues and greens or reds in hard contrasting areas of a photo).

I’d recommend investing in a Canon introductory 6D full frame kit.

It’s a full frame camera with a current camera sensor and much better image quality to the camera that is currently being used.  It comes with a 24-105 L series lens which is low on barrel distortion which is important especially when shooting objects with hard lines or many curves like drums kits and guitars.

Lighting

I think the move would be to switch to strobe lighting.

They offer more power, better control of lighting, and the ability to over power ambient lighting.

Which also means getting the shot right in camera will shave time off post edits.

We’ll be able to capture the instruments with a higher shutter speed which means we’ll get more detail in every shot.

I’ll have some strobe lighting set up downstairs today to test it out.

The photos below are some shots I took at home real quick with a strobe setup.

** image are straight from the camera w/ out extracting the background.

*I included shots of the setup, which should work with the Otary system. Lights are all triggered the the camera.
